Letter to the Ontario Human Rights Commission

We are writing to you as members of a coalition of concerned guide dog users.  As you may know, last May the Canadian General Standards Board presented draft standards on service dogs for public comment.

We have been advised that the OHRC chose not to make a submission as it believes that the legislation in Ontario governing service dogs is sufficient.  While we hope that this is true, we continue to have serious concerns about the potential reach and impact of these standards, particularly on guide dog users, should they be adopted.

We would be grateful if we could meet with you, by way of a conference call, to discuss our concerns and the impact that would be created for Canadian Guide Dog Teams in Ontario if these draft standards are implemented.

We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sheri or I would be pleased to make the necessary arrangements at your convenience.
